Scott E. Hoffman
August 18, 1970 — February 8, 2004
Scott E. Hoffman died in McCook on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at 33 years of age. He was born Aug. 18, 1970, in Denver, Colo.
He graduated from Maywood High School in 1988, McCook Community College in 1990 and the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1993. On July 25, 1992, he married Darcey Newlon in McCook and they moved to McCook in 1994.
Scott was a member of the McCook Evangelical Free Church, where he was active as an usher and as games leader in the youth AWANA program. In addition to working for KICX Radio since he was 16 years old, he served as managing director of the Minden Courier and city editor of the McCook Daily Gazette. He worked as campaign staff for Ben Nelson's U.S. Senate race, subsequently becoming staff assistant to the Senator. Scott was on the coaching staff at Culbertson and McCook high schools, a basketball official for area ball games, a member and coach at the YMCA, an avid outdoorsman, a lover of dogs and a devoted and outstanding husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Rudy and Gustine Gamblin and his uncle Bill Gamblin.
Survivors include his wife Darcey; sons, Christian and Stephen; daughter Denae Owens, all of McCook; father Dick and wife, Linda Hoffman of McCook; mother Cathy and husband, Darryl Snider of Maywood; brother Sean of Maywood; sisters Shannon and husband, Dwayne Schalles of Hanahan, S.C., and Kiok and husband, Tim Quigley of Bonner Springs, Kan.; step-brothers and sisters, Tim Dixson of Rapid City, S.D., Melissa Dixson and Megan Aguallo, both of Sutherland, John and wife, Tamara Snider of Kearney and Marisa and husband, Scott Joudrey of Nova Scotia, Canada; grandparents Howard and Lee Hoffman of McCook; in-laws Gary and Ruby Newlon of Lincoln; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at the McCook City Auditorium Friday, 2 p.m., with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefered memorial contributions to the Scott Hoffman Educational Fund for his children. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
