Biography

Sherrill Kaye Thayer died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 60 years old.

Sherrill was born on February 18, 1950 in Belleville, Kansas to Sidney Clement and Joan R. (Charbonneau) Allen, the oldest of eight children. She received her elementary education at St. Patrick's School. She continued her high school education at McCook Public Schools graduating in 1969.

Sherrill's greatest love, pride and joy came from her son, Larry. She had a passion for jewelry and knew gemstones as well as a jeweler. She also enjoyed going to auctions having a keen eye for antiques and collectables. Her heritage, being part Native American, gave her an interest in their culture and traditions. She enjoyed participating in pow wows and rendezvous.

Preceding her in death were her father, Sidney Allen; sister, Nancy Martinez; niece, Kristie Allen; nephew, Jason Allen; and brother-in-law, Loren Thayer.

Survivors include her mother Joan Allen of McCook, NE, son, Larry Thayer and companion, Michelle Lamaak, of McCook; three brothers, Bob Allen of Culbertson, Mike Allen and wife, Brenda, of McCook and Pat Allen and wife, Diana, of Herndon, KS; three sisters, Lynn and husband, Vony Carfield, Vicky Lampman, and Sandy Schwab all of McCook; one grandson, Cheyenne White; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Rosary will be Sunday, November 28, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 29, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
