Shirley Joan Miner passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Cambridge Manor Nursing Home.
She was born to Leo Joseph and Twila Lucile (Dolph) Sughroue in Indianola. She attended school and graduated from Indianola High School. She moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she taught dance at the Author Murray Dance Studio. It was while she was there she met her future husband. Robert Peter Rugg, and they were united in marriage in 1961. To this union four children were born, Ronald, Jameson, Brian and Gloria. Robert was in the armed services which stationed the family all over the United States and some foreign countries. She was later united in marriage to Marvin Miner on August 7, 1974, in Oberlin, KS and another son, Jeffrey, made the family complete. They made their home in Indianola where Shirley was a busy homemaker and also worked for Dayco.
She was a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church. She loved to dance, read, and keep up with politics. She was especially proud of her home in Indianola that she and Marvin built together.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin Miner; her son, Ronald Anthony Rugg; her parents, Leo and Twila Sughroue; and sister, Geraldine Sperle.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Annette McCormick, of Attleboro, MA; sons, Jameson Craig Rugg of McCook, Brian Joseph Rugg of Lincoln and Jeffrey Lynn Miner of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, Kayla and Corrie Gattshall, Anthony Rugg, Tesla Florom, Melissa, Lindsey and Eric McCormick, Jameson Dickson, Nikki Relaford, and Craig and Brooke Rugg; and three great-grandchildren, Jaycob, Y-Velle and Jazmin; close friend and manor roommate, Glenda Miracle; numerous family and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 1-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 13, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherines Catholic Church with Father Thomas McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at St. Catherines Cemetery.
