Sina K. Ruggles

Sina K. Ruggles beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Community Hospital of McCook, NE. She was 95 years old.

Sina was born in Dejbjerg, Skjern, Denmark on April 13, 1918, to Jens and Mette (Axelsen) Jensen. She was one of five children born to this union. At age two, Sina and her family traveled 31 days by ship from Denmark to New York. They then proceeded by train to their homestead in Rawlins County, Kansas where she spent many of her younger years.

Sina married Lowell A. Ruggles on September 29, 1940, in McCook. To this union four children were born. The couple made their home in rural Red Willow County where Sina was an integral part of the farm and ranch operation with Lowell, as well as a busy mother and homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Circle 12 Red Willow County Extension Club.

Survivors include her children; Robert and wife Catherine Ruggles of Mesa, AZ, Jean Kunkee of Omaha, NE, Marilyn and husband Delbert Kunkee of McCook, NE, and Lois Conway of McCook, NE. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, extended family and numerous friends.

Sina was treasured and infinitely loved by her family and all who were blessed to know her. She was the center of the family. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for family and others. She was always quick to lend a hand, a kind word, a warm hug, a sweet smile. She was generous, kind, smart, witty, beautiful, and above all, loving. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, crosswords, and cooking. Our lives are rich and wonderful because of her love, guidance and the example she set for us. We celebrate her long, amazing life and the impact she had on each of us.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell; four brothers Harry, Chris, Fred, and Bill, grandson J.J. Conway, son-in-law, Raymond Kunkee and nephew Roland Jensen.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5th.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2013, at 11:00 a.m at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE with Jerry Beckenhauer, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
