Stanley Dween Rucker of Hayes Center died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 86 years old.

Stanley was born on March 2, 1921 to Claude L. and Elizabeth M. (Orman) Rucker at the family farm in Frontier County, Nebraska. He graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis in 1939.

He entered the US Army Infantry of Engineers on September 28, 1942 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945.

On June 4, 1955, he married Marilyn Gladys Alexander in North Platte. Their entire married life was spent in Hayes Center. Together, they raised one son, Alan Rucker. Stanley served as Hayes County Treasurer for several years. He also did electrical work in and around Hayes Center and most recently was a night watchman for the feedlot until he retired.

Stanley was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ. He loved to play baseball in his earlier years. He later took up the sport of playing golf.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Claude and Elizabeth Rucker; his wife, Marilyn on December 28, 2006; his son, Michael Steven; and two brothers, Phillip and Ivan Rucker.

Survivors include his son, Alan M. Rucker of Trenton; one brother, Omer Rucker of Gresham, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center with Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Burial took place in the Hayes Center Cemetery with military honors.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
