Steven Alan Schellhase died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Omaha. He was 51 years old.

Steven was born on December 31, 1955 in Omaha to Alan B. and Patricia A. Bowers (Paine) Schellhase. He attended R-3 Phelps County Schools and graduated from Overton High School.

In May of 1974, he joined the US Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in June of 1981 and has been a disabled veteran since that time.

On July 27, 1981, he married Anita Quismundo in Tacoma, Washington. He lived in Williamsburg Township on the family farm, various Coast Guard bases and Tacoma before moving back to Indianola in 1993 where he was living at the time of his death.

Steven worked as a computer tech for Data Tech in Federal Way, WA. He was also a truck driver for Ag-Valley CO-OP in Indianola and worked as a farm hand. His hobbies included antique tractors, cars and trucks and going to tractor pulls.

Preceding him in death were his father, Alan Schellhase; step-father, Don E. Bowers; maternal grandparents, G.C. and Vonda Paine; paternal grandparents, Ray and Irene Schellhase; and step-grandmother, Margie Paine.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Schellhase of Indianola; daughter, Stephanie E.P. Schellhase of Indianola; mother, Patricia A. Bowers of Indianola; two step-sisters, Denise and husband, Louie Chavez of Trona, CA and Linda and husband, Don Morosic of Kearney; two great-aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the Indianola United Methodist Church with Rev. David Rowe officiating. Inurnment took place in the Indianola Cemetery with a military committal.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
