Susanna Leibbrandt

Susanna Maria Sophia (Esslinger) Leibbrandt, formerly of McCook, Nebraska, died on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Hebron Oaks Nursing Home, Oakwood Village in Madison, Wisconsin. She was 95 years old.

Susanna was born to Rudolph and Alma A.K. (Helms) Esslinger on December 7, 1914, in Gosper County, near Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Arapahoe, and was also confirmed at Immanuel on June 12, 1929.

She was united in marriage with Elmer G. Leibbrandt on March 4, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran in Arapahoe. To this union one son was born, Vernon Dean Leibbrandt of Madison.

Susanna was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Madison and Oakwood Lutheran Service League of Madison. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook for 40 years before moving to Madison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Leibbrandt; parents, Rudolph and Alma Esslinger; and five brothers, Walter, Edgar, George, William and Alvin Esslinger.

She leaves her son and wife, Vernon and Judy Leibbrandt of Madison; two grandsons and their wives, Justin and Lynn Leibbrandt and Eric and Autumn Leibbrandt, both of Sun Prairie, WI; three great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and wives, Martin and Lois Leibbrandt of Imperial, NE and Lewis and Doris Leibbrandt, of McCook; sister-in-law, Abby Esslinger of Broken Arrow, OK; many numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorials were to be given in her name to The Lutheran Hour, Oakwood Foundation or donor's choice.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook.
