Biography

Thomas Michael O'Neil, age 60, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

He was born in McCook on March 30, 1950 to William P. and Catherine M. (Boehm) O'Neil. He attended St. Patrick's Grade School. While there, he served as an altar boy and played basketball on the Knight's team. He graduated from McCook High School in 1970.

He married Marilynn G. Funk in McCook on May 31, 1969.

In 1974 he joined his father in the business at Swanson Signs. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing poker and riding his motorcycle. He was a 1967 Golden Glove Boxer.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, William P. O'Neil; brother, Daniel O'Neil; and 3 infant grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Marilynn O'Neil of McCook; children, Joshua O'Neil of Fort Worth, TX, Bridget O'Neil of Grand Island; mother, Catherine "Katie" O'Neil of McCook; brothers, Timothy O'Neil of Queens, AZ and Dennis O'Neil of Goodland, Kansas; five sisters, Peggy Rogers and husband, Dick of McCook, Patricia "Patty" O'Neil of Denver, CO, Rosemary Dack and husband, George of East Helena, MT, Annie Carlson and husband, Alan of Johnstown, CO and Maureen O'Neil of Grand Island; one granddaughter, Alissa O'Neil of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials may be given in his name.


Rosary will be Monday, January 31, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook, with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Monday 1:00 -7:00 p.m.
