Tom T. Record died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 81 years old.
He was born May 30, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska to Frank and Addie (McDuffy) Record.
Tom married Barbara K. Brown on November 29, 1969 in Omaha.
He attended school in Omaha and joined the Merchant Marines when he was 16. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his time in the European Theatre following the end of World War II. After his discharge from the service, he began in the car business with his brother in Omaha. In a few years, he became the general manager for the McKenzie Pontiac then moved to Oklahoma to assume the duty of general manager of Ellingson Pontiac and GMC before moving to McCook in 1978. He was the owner and operator of the Record Buick Oldsmobile for 22 years and Record Motors Inc., until his retirement and sale of business to his son, Ron and wife, Dawn in the year 2000.
Tom enjoyed his family and grandchildren, camping, hunting, fishing, collecting and restoring firearms until five years ago, when he had to give up his hobbies because of his eyesight. Tom enjoyed sharing his life experiences with all who would listen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Robert; sister, Floretta Sullwold; and brothers, Frank, Dick and Jack.
Survivors include his wife Barb of McCook; son Ron and wife, Dawn Record of McCook; daughter Rita and husband, Jim Kisner of Omaha; brother Jerry and wife Betty Record of Omaha; grandchildren, Alec of McCook and Jackie and Jeff, all of Omaha; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment took place Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 2:30 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery of Maxwell.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
