Truman "Bud" A. Silver

Truman A. "Bud" Silver died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 94 years old.

Bud was born on September 17, 1915, at Trenton to Clarence and Mary (Fleming) Silver. He was baptized in 1938 and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Palisade, Nebraska. He attended Trenton Public Schools.

On January 10, 1937, he married Nellie H. Peterson at Palisade and they enjoyed married life for over 70 years. To this union two daughters, Lois and Doris, were born. They made their home near Palisade where Bud farmed until his retirement.

Truman was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade and served in many positions at the church. He served as a member of the Village Board of Palisade and eight years as Hitchcock County Commissioner. He also served 18 years as a member of the school board in the Palisade School System.

Bud was a lifetime farmer-rancher in the Palisade area. He and Nellie farmed together until their retirement when they moved into Palisade. Later they moved to Culbertson and finally to McCook where they resided at Willow Ridge Retirement Community and then Hillcrest Nursing Home the past 10 years.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Nellie on August 28, 2007; his parents, Clarence and Mary Silver; a sister, Darlene Cobb and five siblings, four in infancy and Cletus Silver.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lois and husband, Loren Brown, of McCook and Doris and husband, Richard Weaver, of Biloxi, Mississippi; a sister, Ada Snyder of Montrose, Colorado; a brother, David Silver of Olathe, CO; sister-in-law Estalee Silver, Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Lorna and husband Gary Brown of McCook, Lyle Brown of Palisade, and Dan and Amy Weaver of Houston, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Bryan Myers, Myrah and Whitney Brown and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to the KNGN radio station.

Family will greet friends prior to the Memorial Service, set for Saturday, August 7th at 10:30 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. There will be a private family inurnment at a later date.
