Velma D. Collins died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial. She was 94 years old.
Velma was born on April 8, 1910, in Hayes County, Nebraska to Richard and Kitty (Lantz) Daniel. She graduated from Wauneta High School. She continued her education at Kearney State Teachers College where she graduated with a degree in elementary education.
On July 25, 1929, she married Boyd Lee Collins in Sterling, Colorado. To this union two daughters were born. They made their home in Hayes County most of their married life. Velma taught school in Hayes County and then worked in Social Work for 40 years until her retirement.
She attended Hamlet Union Church since a small child, and enjoyed teaching adult Sunday school. She loved her flowers and gardening and many other hobbies.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Boyd; an infant son; two brothers, Alvin and Richard Daniel; and one sister, Etta Trainer.
Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara and husband, Lyle Ingersoll, of Palisade and Linda Clark of Omaha; sister-in-law, Ruby Black of Palisade; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Graveside services were Monday, March 28, 2005, at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Hamlet with Ray Ridlen officiating. Burial took place after the service.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
