William Bill Edward Green, Sr. of McCook, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.
Bill was born at Edgar, Nebraska to Guy I. and Grace (Hart) Green. He graduated from Edgar High School, the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He married Arline N. Kramer in Washington, D.C., on April 17, 1943. To this union six children were born.
Bill entered the US Navy on January 31, 1945 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946.
Bill retired from the FBI after 27 years of service as a Special Agent. He served as Chief of Police for McCook for four years. He also taught Law Enforcement at McCook and North Platte Community Colleges. Bill had a deep respect for law enforcement. In his free time, he greatly enjoyed agriculture and music.
Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No.135A.F. & A. M. at McCook where he received his 60 year membership award in May of 2004. He was a member of all York Rite Bodies of McCook, member of Tehama Temple Mystic Nobles of the Shrine at Hastings, Eureka Chapter No. 86, Order of the Easter Star at McCook.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Guy and Grace Green; his wife, Arline Green on March 24, 2007; an infant son; and son-in-law, Dennis Lem.
Survivors include his children, Barbara Lem of Pleasant Hill, CA, William Bill Green, Jr. and wife, Sally, of Richland, WA, Peggy Mason of North Platte, Patty and husband, Tom Howard, of Derby, KS and Michael Green and wife, Beverly, of McCook; ten grandchildren, Ronald Swasey, Brian Swasey, Andrea Green, Melanie (Michael) Whitmore, Tiffany Mason, Robert Zachery (Cynthia) Mason, Julia (Stefan) Howard Hötzl,Cassandra (Mark) Harrison, Matthew (Constance) Green and Nicole Green; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church or McCook Senior Center.
Funeral services were Friday, June 22, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial took place in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, at 2:00 p.m.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
